Whenever I do an annual on my airplanes I dread the first hour or so because that is when I check compression. I fly the airplane to get it all warmed up then pull it into the hangar for the annual. By the time I get the cowling off, the engine is cool enough to mess with. When I check compression I write the compression reading on the rocker box cover with a grease pencil right away so I don't forget. Well, here are the results for the Cessna 170 this morning. All well into the 70s which means they are good. The last two annuals I had to pull jugs and it was both time consuming and expensive. This year - piece of cake. My son Richard will appreciate the sigh of relief!

The numbers are in pounds per square inch. They are the pressure retained in the cylinder when there is a supply pressure of 80 psi.

John, in this world of many confusing measurement systems.
What do the numbers refer to. Is it pounds per square inch ?
