Our trip planning had us arriving a full day ahead of time in Anchorage. That is our usual practice because of the continuously looming possibility of an airline screw up. Just before leaving we looked for something to do for the day and came across a day tour down the Turnagin Arm that looked interesting. So Ginny booked it. The van would pick us up at 8:45 at our hotel. Good Deal!

The van (a nice Mercedes) arrived right on time. We were the only two people on the trip. Our guide was an expert on all sorts of stuff and an Iditarod racer to boot. Since there were only the two of us, the day was leisurely. We took a boat cruise on Portage Lake right up to the face of Portage Glacier. Went to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center and just drove around and enjoyed the scenery. It was a hoot. Our guide Matt was very good.

Back in Anchorage we asked Matt to drop us off at Office Depot (only a few blocks from our hotel). Why would we do that? Because yours truly brought the wireless mouse but left the dongle sitting on his desk. I tried to use the touch pad to operate Lightroom, but it was a no-go for me. Office depot had a cheap USB mouse and we were all set. We took the long way home which included several gift shops and a liquor store. Life is good. Tomorrow we are off to Lake Clark for eight nights.

Today's photo is of us on the upper deck of the Ptarmigan, the cruise boat for the Portage Lake trip. In the background is Portage Glacier.

We just got back from a Princess cruise from Vancouver up to Whittier, with multiple stops in between, followed by a few days on land up to Denali park, etc. Never did see that mountain, though. Haze plus the smoke from forest fires obscured the view. And, as one of our guides said, it only rains about 400 days a year in that area. Great trip overall, the mountains the glaciers, the whales... Lots of photos to edit and run through Lightroom, then post here. Plenty of time to do it, though, since an added souvenir of the trip is Covid, so we're on quarantine for a few days, taking those tasty little pills.
