This is my first Amateur Radio License. Things were very different back then. I passed the General test on November 11, 1992. Because all the paperwork had to go through the mail and presumably various offices at the FCC, my license wasn't issued until January 19, 1993. I didn't receive it in the mail until January 29, 1993. I needed the license to operate, besides I didn't know my call sign until I got it. I had to wait over two months before I could get on the air. It drove all us new licensees crazy because you couldn't operate until you had your license in hand. And so I fired up my rig and made my first contact with Jim WB9IFZ in New Jersey. I still have the QSL card which is certainly a treasure for me.
Last week I wanted to get a copy of my current license (they don't send them out now days), so I just headed to the FCC website and voila there was a downloadable "Official Copy" of my current license. 73 de AB5OX.
