Everybody has seen photos of Diamond Head on Oahu. It is the side of a volcanic crater which is seen from Honolulu. In the past it was used as a fire control station for coastal artillery. When you get up there you can see why. The walk up is a bit strenuous with lots of stairs. But from that effort you get a great payoff. The view of Honolulu and Waikiki Beach is terrific. We got there early and already people were returning from the climb. I would say that ninety percent of those making the trek were Japanese tourists. At the top we found somebody to snap a photo of us. You will note that my shirt is somewhat sweat soaked. The return to the parking lot was all downhill.

Later we went to the Honolulu Museum of Art. It is not large. We got lucky and had a docent tour of the Western art collection. After a hearty lunch at Burger King we went up to Spalding House which is part of the museum. Then it was back down to the main building where Ginny spent the rest of the day.
