We visited Pierre, South Dakota on June 6 and 7, 2016. We got lucky and had two nice days for outdoor photography. South Dakota was granted statehood on November 2, 1889 as the 40th state. The capitol building was built 1905-1910. We had a very nice tour with a docent that knew her stuff. One of the displays was of dolls dressed as the governor's wives at their inauguration. There was a mosaic floor all through the building with a few red hearts and blue signature tiles. Each artisan was allowed to place one blue tile. This was our 36th capitol visit.
