Cabot Tower is Newfoundland's best known landmark.
Built in 1897 to commemorate Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee
and the 400th anniversary of John Cabot's "discovery" of Newfoundland,
it overlooks the city and ocean from Signal Hill.
Marconi received the first transatlantic message here in 1901.
Signal Hill is named such because it was used to signal to ships and
their arrival in port.
