WINTER WONDERLAND
Brown Pelican with terns at Lovers Key State Park at New Pass
Fort Myers Beach, Florida USA
This photograph of a Brown Pelican, gulls, and terns might best be served by a good crop, but I'll leave it
as is for a place in this gallery. The venue is Lovers Key State Park at New Pass in the Gulf of Mexico on a sand bar,
or more appropriately a shell bar. My knees and elbows were raw for days after my foray here after lying on
my belly for an extended period of time to capture the myriad of birds that congregated on the small piece of real estate
that I deserted only because the incoming tide left me on a dry parcel no larger than a bus. On my way back
to the beach, I was nearly swept off my feet by the rip current on a couple of occasions that will have me
extremely on guard when, with certainty, I visit this opportunity again. -- Bob Pelkey
This photograph was selected as the Winter Photo Contest Winner for the Friends of Lovers Key State Park
quarterly photo contest. It was published in the quarterly newsletter and I received an annual
membership in FOLKS.
