Virginian Tiger Moth

Eagleson storm water ponds, Kanata, ON

Virginian Tiger Moth caterpillars are common in our area, and quite variable in appearance, from beige or yellow to brown or black. The caterpillar body is covered in long soft hairs, called setae, which are variable in length. There is one long hair in the middle of each tuft.
