KANEMORI RED BRICK WAREHOUSES IN THE BAY AREA OF HAKODATE - these warehouses were originally built in 1887 with the development of the shipping industry in Japan. The area was where shipyards and foreign settlements were once located. The original warehouses were destroyed by fire, but were rebuilt in 1909. In 1988, the warehouses were remodelled and incorporated as part of a waterfront area development housing restaurants, shops, etc.
