Annie got married to Fred a few weeks ago ( http://www.pbase.com/jenfu/annie__fred ). She recently received the proofs from her pro-photog and it is time to pick those all-important 36 shots for the album. I really enjoyed watching and participating in this experience because it illustrated to me the potential of photography. Annie was such a beautiful bride on her special day and her happiness was quite evident.
Her photographer captured lovely images throughout the day of not just the couple but also the people who love them. The photos provided a way of re-living the day but through a slightly different perspective. With so much going on during the wedding day, I'm sure Annie and Fred had but a peek of all of the unfolding events. The photography allows them almost an omniscient review of the entire day.
People will argue about what is art. Some will go as far as stating that photography cannot be art because one just has to press a button on a machine. I think that art is a representation of the human condition, through one person's perspective. If it touches...strikes up emotion, then it has fulfilled its purpose as art.
Watching Annie review her photos was a joy. Between the times when we were laughing at different people's silly expressions, you can see the moments when Annie was touched by certain images. It was clear that that was a very special day.
