S.S. Dessoug being loaded in Alexandria, Egypt. Notice the hole in the bow that Gorringe made in order to rig the obelisk aboard, amidships and low over the keel. Also notice the props from the gunwhale to the dock, the catwalks floating on the surface and the ship that was lashed along the port side to prevent Dessoug from capsizing. Once in New York Harbor, off of Staten Island, the obelisk was transfered to a barge for its trip up the Hudson River where it was rigged onto the shore.
