Monserrate Palace is an ornate palace in Sintra, Portugal.
It was built with a combination of Gothic, Indian, and Moorish influences.
Sir Francis Cook purchased the land in the mid 1800s and had the palace built based on places he had seen in the many countries he had visited as a trader.
It has an exotic theme that was inspired by his travels as well as an emphasis on plants both inside and out.
The gardens contain plant species from all around the world and is organized according to geographic origin.
It is one of the most impressive botanical gardens in Portugal and in Europe.
The gardens were so pretty and peaceful and any photos of them really don't do them justice.
