Ellen Dodge was the first wife of Anson Dodge, II. Being wealthy they embarked on an around the world honeymoon. Tragedy struck in India where she ate some bad grapes. She died and Anson faithfully stayed by her side in the heat and darkness of the ship's hold. He later buried her beneath the floor in front of the pulpit in Christ Church where he preached.
