The Story of Alice Licht

Alice Licht grew up in a comfortable middle class family in Berlin. In February 1943, Otto Weidt hid Alice and her parents in a rented stockroom. When Weidt's workshop was betrayed by an informant, the Licht's were arrested by the Gestapo and deported to Theresienstadt Ghetto (November 1943). Six months later they were deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camp, where Alice Licht’s parents were murdered. She was transferred to Christianstadt, another concentration camp, where, with the help of Otto Weidt, she succeeded in escaping to Berlin. She hid in Weidt's apartment until the end of the war. She emigrated to the USA in the summer of 1946 and died in Israel in 1987.
