Hoar Frost on Briars

Edge Puffer Pond

Growingcrystalspond.0365.jpg
At the time the immature bald Eagle flew over the pond, Mary was on the ice and I (Laura)was just stepping onto the ice at the “Landing” area. Mary had walked out to examine the deer carcass and was returning. I wondered if the presence of people on the pond had deterred the eagle. I had been monitoring the carcass off and on as we skirted around the edge of Puffer. I had my binoculars and checked on it each time I came near the edge. There were 3-5 crows feasting on the carcass each time I looked. Just before Mary started across the ice, and the rest of us skirted around the edge through the woods to the “Landing” there was a Red-Tail Hawk in a tree on the point and the crows had gathered near what looked like open water in the area of the Beaver lodges.
