North Eleuthera, in the central Bahamas, is separated from the rest of the island by a thin sliver of land known as 'The Glass Window". Originally The Glass Window was a natural bridge that crossed a divide where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Bight of Eleuathera in the Exuma Sound. Today, a man-made bridge has replaced the natural arch that was carried away during a storm 150 years ago.

In 1991, a monster wave off of the Atlantic knocked the man-made bridge seven feet west. The bridge is now a one lane structure. Southbound vehicles must yield to the north-bounders.
We are told that, each year, several victims are swept from the bridge by rough weather. It is only a matter of time before the raging Atlantic Ocean, with rolling waves that come three thousand miles from Africa, claims this bridge and unites the two bodies of water, as it as been trying to do for thousands of years.
