Sunset, Alabama Hills, Lone Pine, California, 2006

The setting sun reveals the ancient texture of these hills, arranged along a gradually receding diagonal line. These rocky surfaces look very familiar. They provided the background for dozens of western movies.

Good point, Ai Li. I don't give you any hints here at to scale. The bushes could easily be trees, and those rocks could be huge. But they are not as large as mountains -- they are only boulder-like hills.

Nicely composed with the diagonal line separating the hills from the sage and bushes. While the light revealed the texture, I wondered about the actual size or height of these hills. From your closeup frame, I imagined them as giantic rocks.
