Elderly

India - Tamil Nadu - Madurai

An old lady gathering up scraps of thrown paper to sell, ensuring herself an income as she doesn't have a pension and most probably no family to look after her.

In the center of Madurai you see a lot of poor elderly people trying to survive and not all are beggars.

The greatest danger for a visitor in Tamil Nadu and I suppose in all India is that coming here you get such a tremendous culture chock but once you get through that you are harassed and deceived so many times that you become apathic, chasing away all beggars crudely like flies, double-check every info after been told so much lies and promises by sweettalkers, noticing that you are victimized many times by a system of corruption and bribery cause you are considered as an easy naive rich bank to be milked out.
Truth, dreams, lies, hollow promises ... society here is all a mix from this, you start to doubt what is reality and what is illusion ... and like you could expect, even the most simple true people here are victimized by politicians with most sensational promises ... after a while you couldn't care less for all this and you shut yourself off like so many others here in their middle class houses emprisoned with iron bars.

Wrong, if you come here, you have to dare to challenge this society, learning to see the real from the false, the beggars and the promising deceivers but never become apathetic to the beauty that still grows on even the worse dump. Think twice cause you will be put to the test of worlds most falluated manipulators of mind to see through it and still reach your hand to people who really are in need.
It is not the sensational inviting glitter that will enrich you as often it reveals its real face after a short while of impersonal clever manipulation that on the contrary will impoverish in finance and mind, your believe of people here. You have to discover the real society that you will find so much easier by the simple people of the street not protected by walls of hypocrisy.

So open your mind, be aware to be still able to see a little mother here, hided behind an auto-rickshaw.

And don't forget, India is so promising but when the cat went away, so many mice are dancing on the table, still a long way to go to make a healthy society where truth and trust could grow in a new young generation that reject all forms of impoverishing impersonal sensational begging lies.

One of my personal views on this big country, you don't have to agree ... hoping that you become more aware with what you have to deal when coming here ... I even would dare to say, don't be naive the rest of your life, come to India and learn to see through walls of hypocresie to discover real life.
