Mrs Edwards was the wife of Bryan Edwards, MP of Jamaica. Her daughter, Elizabeth married David Clutterbuck. The story is that there was a slave uprising in Jamaica and the slave in the picture was loyal to the family. The rebels cut off one of his ears. The picture was posed to show his good ear!
