Dec 2: Three wise flies

"...we three flies from orient are..."

I've spent the day photographing fishing flies for my brother-in-law, Tony, who has a little sideline business hand making them. He came over last night with a box of flies, various props and a book of beautiful fishing fly photographs by Egmont Van Dyke. Truly wonderful images. "I'd like something like this" he said. Well, I had a go. Only once I'd started did I realise how hard this would be. They are such difficult little things to handle, never staying where you want them, and actually appearing to be alive half the time. I think I did OK, though not up to Egmont's standard. I'd like to spend a bit more time with these little critters and really get it right!

The thumbnail looks like a scene from 'War Of The Worlds'

There's no work like doing product shots to test your patience!

I'm not in fishing so I hadn't a clue what this was all about. Looked liked serpents, but a nice one.

Great work, the lighting is perfect and it must have taken a lot of thought to get the DOF as good as this. The subjects are all perfectly in focus and the bokeh is superb.
