Street Food, Shanghai 2005

Just off Jian He Lu is a way of life which though very common, most people don't ever see in Shanghai. It is a way of life about the street, community and optimism.

As I noted on the color version, it works quite differently. I prefer for it for a number of reasons, primarily because of the food reading as the food it is.

Been away for a few days, so none of you have been ignored! Thankyou for all your comments. I will post the colour for comparison. I think it comes back to my instinct as a more documentary type photographer, that I turn to b&w. It simplifies the image for me, and the realtionships always seem clearer to me. But Phil has often suggested a switch and it has also worked and created a different expression. Both valid.

I agree with Phil in some turms..the food,as the main subject, would be more in the focus if u would convert this shot to the other hand........If u wanted to show the lifestile...the not so good circumstances...the daily life of these people..than i prefere to see the shot in BW.......U the one,who knows, what u wanted to express, translate with your photo...........

Your vantage point bring us all to this food cart, and makes the choice ours. I would like to you see you post it in color as well. Food is one of those subjects that usually thrives on color, since it does not look very appetizing in black and white. I think the tones and hues of the food, the gleam of the money, the warmth of the earth, might bring a welcome glow to this kind of subject.
