I put these two pictures of Steve here because he and Albert were friends,
when they weren't clawing at each others throats
Many of you may have had 'business dealings' with Steve
who lived in an apartment on Pacific Ave, just South of Venice Blvd, I think.
Steve knew how to laugh and have a good time but he had his dark moods too. He was also the stubbornest person I have ever met in my life. When I came back to Venice to sell my house in 1991 I wanted to see him because I had heard he was sick.He seemed to be sleeping almost all the time and I was about to give up on any real time with him when he called me. He wanted to go to the RoosterFish on Saturday night and he could no longer walk that far. So I drove him over to the bar , fairly early and whe helped him to a stool at the end of the bar. Soon the place filled up and you could barely move. As the night went on I began to fade, having spent the day working on the house, but it became clear that Steve wasn't going to budge. He planned to close the bar and close it we did. Somehow I managed to get him back to my van where he prodeeded to puke all over the front seat, and that's the last I saw of him. I guess he went back to sleep and stopped answering his phone A few weeks later he died. I say, without irony, that I personally consider that to be going out in style....
