Crawfish Hole

It has been very dry in our area for the last couple of weeks The temperatures have been in the mid 90's with heat indices in the 105-115 degree range. This is a crawfish hole in a drainage ditch near my house. The ditch is empty except for the crawfish hole. The top of the hole is made by the mud that is excavated from the hole by the crawfish. A path to follow under the shade of he trees.

I had no idea - I never knew they did that! Well seen. Nature is so weird, isn't it?

as long as it stops them getting baked in the heat! Well spotted

That's a smart crawfish...like frogs, they know where to go to beat the heat...good find, Elaine.

Amazing. I never suspected such a thing existed. What an interesting place you live in. Too hot though.

Lovely crawfish chimney. Ever wonder how tough they are to dig this much dirt and in such patterns?
