WWJD? by CindyD

Northern Sierra, about 7,000 feet elev.

WWJD? Probably not mutilate trees! lol

explanatory note: Not sure if WWJD is just an American
thing or not. So if you haven't seen this before it means
"What Would Jesus Do?" This can be found on bumper stickers and the like
With the apparent idea that if people are always asking themselves
that question then maybe they will treat each other with more
kindness and generosity and give of themselves more etc....
odd that somebody would feel the need to
vandalize a living thing to make that suggestion!

Nice collection, Cindy, and I especially like "Me" — well chosen angle. It has the same recursive fascination as the ultimate bumper sticker, which reads "Bumper Sticker". Your explanation reminds me of a sign, displaying the minister's similar thought-for-the-week, outside a church in the Melbourne suburb or Hawthorn — also the home, and name, of one of the major football teams here. The question posed was "What would YOU do if Christ came to Hawthorn tomorrow?". A graffito beneath the message responded "Play Peter Hudson at centre half-forward!" — Mike

Hi Bev. I found this particular grove while snowmobiling at work (I know rough duty) about 4 years ago. I always meant to get back to it to look around in the summer but hadn't had an excuse until this challenge. Most aspen groves in the Sierras that had any sheep grazing at all in the area have the basque carvings. Although grafitti is illegal the tradition has been carried on and there are very recent carvings there. Luckily it is pretty remote so there are still a lot of trees unscathed!

Interesting find (the graffiti) and commentary. Too bad that the slogan meant to honor Christ has also brought dishonor. How did you find this grove? Is carving of the trees still allowed? Bev
