Laccaria amethystina

CN

This is a beautiful purple laccaria not unlike the more common rust-brown Laccaria laccata in stature. Cap color can vary from pale lavender, similar to the color of the more robust Laccaria ochropupurea, to an almost neon purple! The gills are attached to slightly decurrent, well-separated, with short gills interspersed near the margin, and quite purple. This mushrooms is edible, but they are rather small and it may be hard to find enough of the to make a meal. Laccaria amathystina is found in deciduous and mixed forests. It is commonly under beech and oak trees.

Pronouncing the species name of this Laccaria can be a tongue-twister, It can more easily be pronounced if you break the word up into syllables, for example,
AMA-THYS-TI'-NA.
