Tony Dean 2

...This is one of several photos I recently received from Mr. Mark T. Russell. Here is what Mark Rusell had to say...

...Armando: Here are some more 914 race pix's. The number #94 car was the 1st 914/6 to race here in the U.S. at the 6-Hour up at Watkins Glen 1970. It finished 5th in GT, 20th over all, and was driven by Steve Behr and Ralf Meaney. They also ran a 911 as well. You'll see the two in one of the pix's I've sent. The #94 car became the #18 car in 1971 when they went to Daytona.

My brother's name is John Russell and he worked for Porsche in 1969-1975. He started with them racing Can-Am in 69' running around with Tony Deans 908 Spyder sponsored by Porsche-Audi and also assisted with their sister car, Joe Sifferts 917. He had made friends with Steve Behr who had come state side from Porsche. For the next 2 years he managed Ralf Meaney's efforts in GT cars, racing 914's which I can see you like! The one they had in 1970 was a race built 914/6 but in 71 they grabbed hold of a Max Moritz factory GT car which is the #19 car. This car is still around today and runs in a lot of historic events. (pix included) He was also very friendly with Peter Gregg and Richie Ginther who raced other 914's at the time.

After Sebring in 71 John left and went to work for Porsche at the factory living with an up an coming factory driver by the name of Jurgen Barth. From there he worked on 911R, RS and RSR's, early 935's and the 936's.. He bailed out from Porsche in 1975 and believe it or not, has been an early American antique dealer since 1976. He has his shop in South Salem New York.. Funny but there are always "exotics" parked out in front of his shop and he maintains his knowledge of sports racing today and race buddies but only dabbled in getting back out on a track on a Ducati.... He's the blond, long haired, pork chop side burn guy in these photos..

Here's a speal on him at Le Mans in 72 on the PCA site.. http://www.pca.org/news/extrakeyser.html

Best, Mark T. Russell

(THANK YOU VERY MUCH MARK, WE REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR COMMENTS AND PHOTOS! Armando)
