It is about the same, noise wise. So while the 10D might have lower noise, the 10D is substantially sharper. As a result, the 1D requires less overall image sharpening resulting in similar noise levels.

Thanks for the reply. I believe I can live with the weight. Hardly ever shoot below 1/30 sec. so long exposures will not be a problem. My only concern was image noise in normal outdoor shooting, have heard conflicting opinions on that. Presently have a 10D, not sure how much noisier the 1D would be at ISO 200-800 with normal exposure (meaning without over-exposing or "shooting to the right" as some people suggest you have to do with the 1D).
Any drawback? Yes as is true with all digital cams. The 1D is big and heavy (but it has not been an issue with me), does not shine on long exposure work (anything > 15 to 20 seconds is problematic), and is "only" 4 MP.
However, the 1D is a very fast performer and excels and wildlife and many portrait types of photography. The Image quality is exceptional with accurate colors, low noise and very sharp out of camera photographs.

Hi,
Any drawbacks to the 1D ? I can see it can take beautiful images but is this one a good example of the results you normally get ?
