Late Spring 1971

Budingen Germany

Here is the film camera long exposure I took in 1971 of the front gate of the Armstrong Kaserne not far from Frankfort Germany. 50 klicks if I remember right.

I was a UP and assigned to base security and manned the front gate. Since there is a Jeep parked out front of the station that means the MP’s were there. Since they were based at the next village over something must have been going on but I was off duty at that moment I don’t have a clue what. We called them by radio if we needed them and over they came.

At sundown we closed the exit side of the gate so all traffic flowed through one side only. I don’t recall the logic of that but I don’t remember lots of details from back then. I do remember the movie would have just got out which explains all the traffic that time of the night.

I appreciate the offer Jim, you are certainly a skilled photo editor. I will pull it back out and reshoot it in a better lighting environment. Seems like it was bowing slightly even though it was in a photo album. I might try to put weight on it for a day or so see if reduces the bow somewhat. Paul

Very interesting...this to me is almost like a real time machine....it takes me back. However, this was always the problem on color prints...the yellow fade. Interesting though, B&W prints seem to last forever.

But I bet this still brings back memories for you! Best Wishes, Traveller

The photo is actually in pretty good shape. I see a few here that friends what help recovering. Photoshop and Lightroom can work wonders now.
If you were to retake it, and send me the full size raw, I'll take a crack at it for you.
Jim
