Ōfuna Kannon, Kamakura

This was an amazing and unexpected sight, shot from the train from Kamakura to Tokyo.

Ōfuna Kannon Temple is a Buddhist temple in Kamakura. The statue stands at 25 meters/82 feet tall and weighs nearly 2,000 tons. It depicts the East Asian bodhisattva known as Guanyin or Kannon.

That's certainly a huge statue of Kannon (Goddess of Mercy) ... all the more special because there really is not that many Buddhist temples in Japan as their main religion is Shintoism. V

I lived in Ofuna briefly in 2013/2014 ... great city and even better nightlife. HoneyBee live house has great live music most nights. You can walk to Kamakura and it's a really nice walk. Thanks for these Helen.
