Lepiota magnispora

Twanoh State Park, Washington

Yellowfoot Dapperling
A most handsome species when newly emergent, this Lepiota features a shaggy stipe below an evanescent ring, and a cap that is yellowish brown towards the apex with rows of scales in a circular pattern as the cap expands and a distinctly darker brown disc. The caps may reach 6-7cm and the stipes up to 10-12cm. The caps are initially decorated with pendulous veil remnants at the margins. Yellowish tones can usually be detected in portions of the shaggy stipe scales and hanging veil remnants. Its cap flesh is whitish or yellowish white. The gills are white and free of the stipe. The spore print is white. It is not known if this is an edible species but it is part of a group that contains members known to have deadly amatoxins. It should not be tried.
