Appian Way

Brindisi, Italy

What remains of the ancient road that connected Rome to Brindisi, Italy.
The Turkish marble column (right of center in this image) marks the end of the Appian Way which was used as a marker and light house for ships arriving in Brindisi.
My 2nd Navy assignment was to the heel of Italy; U.S. NAVSECGRUACT San Vito, Italy from May 1968 - May 1970; Brindisi was one of the Italian towns we spent leisure time in.
