Cherry blossoms at peak bloom

Washington’s famous cherry blossoms, a gift from the mayor of Tokyo in 1912, reached peak bloom on Sunday, several days earlier than expected and two hours before this picture was taken. There’s (deliberately) no parking anywhere near the Tidal Basin, and the National Park Service is threatening to close off all access to the trees if too many people come to view them. We just drove past them so I could get a few drive-by shots. It was so nice to see them, even if from afar, but it was nothing like making our annual walk around the basin surrounded by the beautiful flowers.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly
unsharp.

a wavw of blossoms creating quite a sweep of pale colour...perhaps just as well to keep people from congregating too close together in large numbers..

Helen:

Beautiful sight!

What is the issue with too many people looking at these beautiful trees?

Such a beautiful continuous bouquet around the shoreline. We have many in Vancouver and often the streets are clogged with people trying to take a picture. V
