En l’an de grâce 524 Le roi et la reine de Dommonée, Miliaw et Awrilia, donnèrent naissance à un héritier, Melar.
Il n’avait que sept années quand son père, le Roi, fut assassiné par son oncle, Rivod.
Pour asseoir son pouvoir sur le trône Rivod devait encore éliminer Melar.
Il tenta de le faire empoisonner lors d’un dîner. L’enfant, élevé dans la foi et très pieux fit le signe de La Croix au dessus de tous les mets qu’on lui servit et par miracle le poison fut sans effet.
Un peu plus tard Rivod dépêcha une troupe pour l’assassiner. Les soldats restés fidèles à la reine la chassèrent .
Lors d’une autre tentative, un sbire de Rivod parvint toutefois à amputer le jeune prince de la main droite et du pied gauche ce qui l’empêchait de se battre, tare incompatible avec le titre de roi.
Le régicide devint donc roi.

Mélar fut alors conduit dans un monastère où le savoir faire des moines lui permit de guérir et où un miracle l’affubla d’une main d'argent et d’un pied d'airain. Il devint un excellent combattant.
Apprenant cela le tyran dépêcha de nouveaux assassins qui, après plusieurs tentatives infructueuses finirent par le tuer lors d’un guet-apens.
La légende dit que le régicide ne profita pas de son trône car il mourut rapidement de remords.

The regicide became the King.

Melar was then led to a monastery where the monks' know-how enabled him to heal and where a miracle bestowed him with a silver hand and a bronze foot. He became an excellent fighter.
Learning of this, the tyrant dispatched new murderers who, after several unsuccessful attempts, ended up killing him during an ambush.
Legend has it that Rivod did not take advantage of his throne because he quickly died of remorse.
