Right Down the Middle

North Adams, Massachusetts

North Adams Massachusetts was first settled in 1745.
In the mid 1800’s it became a mill town.
After many of the mills closed down in the mid 1940’s Sprague electric moved in.
They were commissioned by the US government to design and manufacture advanced weapons systems that were used in WW2.
Post war years saw Sprauge busy producing electronic equipment.
When that industry moved over seas it devastated the local economy.
Local leaders sought to find a new way to use the vast Sprague complex.
Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art was created.
It took over the Sprague Complex.
MassMoCA has brought a rebirth to the town.
New restaurants and artists galleries now fill empty buildings and mills.
Let’s hope they can survive Covid-19.

It is so great to read about this town and its past.
I hope its future will be equally exciting.

I wish I knew about all these great and very photogenic places when my daughter still lived in Boston and I was there a lot. Fantastic composition here. ~BV~

A very effective depth shot with the strong leading line and the truck, steeple and mountain in the distance. Very nice!

Great perspective Jane. I hope it survives. One thing we have discovered is that all countries have relied too much on one country to produce most of our requirements.

An excellent well composed street scene.

Fantastic composition. Its a pity so much industry moved overseas, we are the same. Lets hope that with the virus we can produce goods once again in our own countries and not be reliant on others. So many items I have tried to order thinking they were made in England are unavailable as they come from China or Europe.

Great POV. I almost feel like there's a standoff between the blue doors and the multi-colored ones!

Cool photo. A bit of a desolate mood befitting our times.

Clever idea to paint the doors to provide interest. I like your view which also shows...not much going on. "VV"
