Day 4 August 27

Another whole day in Memphis and we saw lots of stuff that was interesting. First stop was the Rock n Soul Museum. Another look at the music scene history here in Memphis. This was very well done with an audio tour that was very good. The receiver sets could play lots of music from a menu as well as the audio descriptions of was being seen. It was fun listening to the music; although, there were many tunes I had never heard of.

Nest stop was the Cotton Museum. Memphis was a major center of the cotton business for many years and it was a big business. The museum was well done and there was a series of videos which provided a lot of history and background. We were the only people there.

Last touring activity of the day was a riverboat ride on the Mississippi River. The weather was overcast which made it nice because it kept things cool. A narrator provided non-stop commentary which was both informative and funny. That was enjoyable.

We couldn't leave Memphis without enjoying some barbeque. We asked the locals about the place friends had suggested, Charlie Vergo's. They said it was a tourist trap(!). We should go to Central BBQ, which we did. It was decided that we would get take out and devour the meal in the hotel where the fridge with cold beer and an opened bottle of Merlot awaited us. We were not dissappointed. It was very good and we ate almost the whole thing. It was a lot of food. That is today's photo.

I was amazed that there was jet traffic all night long at the Memphis airport, but then it dawned on me that this is the FedEx hub. It didn't keep me awake, but it was peculiar until I figured it out. One thing about Memphis is that there is no traffic and no crowds. I am sure the time of year has something to do with it. It was certainly easy to get everywhere and find parking. Not sure we need to return to Memphis, but if we do, we will surely visit Central BBQ again.
