Three eighths diameter flower at 12 inches - IMG_6222

I was at the closest auto focus distance to this 3/8 inch diameter weed flower (i.e. 12 inches). In this image, the width of the image is 8 inches and the width of the flower is 3.5 inches. The sensor is 22.5mm across or .88523 inches. Therefore this flower is .3876 inches across on the sensor. Since it is only .375 in real life, then this image of the flower is larger than real life on the sensor and the photo is a true macro image. Photographed on a tripod with flower in a light box.

other sizes: small medium original auto

Nice work and calculations, Dale. :) Yes, I'd always heard a true "macro" was 1/1 or larger rendition. And what you have here is Prickly Lettuce (Lactuca scariola) in case you wanted to know. LOL They kind of look like a yellow version of Chicory.
