John and I are both recovering from major surgery. I had a hip replacement at Duke about 7 weeks ago and am slowly recuperating. John had a total knee done there on October third, and he is having to do more PT than I.
Our daughter Marvi, diagnosed with rectal cancer this summer, finished her first round of radiation and chemo treatment at the U of Chicago. She is now back in Panama with her family and awaiting her surgery date of November 11 to remove the tumor. You can read her comments on her Caring Bridge site if you are interested in her thoughts and observations going through treatment for this cancer. We are deeply grateful at how well she has handled the first weeks and the rest she was enabled to receive in a lovely apartment in Wheaton offered to her from friends from college days there. Lots of grace given in the midst of adversity
Our youngest son Caleb has started Marmilu Farms (You can look this up and see some of the operation featuring Betsy’s wonderful photography.). He and his wife and 4 daughters are living with us for several weeks until they are able to sign the papers on a house and barn in Humboldt on October 31.
We look like Camp Curlin as our dear friend Esher who is 94, lives with us as well as a Korean MK from Brazil and recent graduate of Union University, who hopes to get in PA school in Memphis, in January.
If we are all here for dinner, that makes 10 of us so the food prep has increased and deciding who gets to be in the kitchen…We are all working on it. They will be glad to have their own place nearby and hopefully continue their farming venture, selling their meat and eggs to individuals and various restaurants and wholesale places. Farming is hard work! It is good thing he has always loved working outdoors. His children seem to thrive with all the various activities that are available to them in this business venture.
Other quick news. David and Mia are moving to Hawaii this December with his new Army post. The rest of the kids are still in various stages of parenting and life.
Thanks for those of you who pray for our daughter Marvi Gunn and also for Caleb’s farming operation and for us to all benefit from this intensive family time…smile.
As ever,
Leeba
