This was the view that greeted us from the balcony of our hotel, which was perched on a sheer cliff in Abha http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abha, a city situated 2,200 meters above sea level, with the 3,000-meter-high (10,000 foot) Mount Suda, the highest point in Saudi Arabia, within its borders. The night before, when we really had no idea of the mountains that surrounded us, we watched cars slowly making their way up a road. I couldn’t understand why they were moving so slowly (so very unusual in this country) until we set out on some of these unbelievably steep grades ourselves. While we were admiring the spectacular view, we heard a commotion below us, and to our amazement saw a large group of baboons rummaging around the area looking for food. It turned out they were common all over the province but unfortunately very camera shy (so am not sure yet if I really have any captures of them or not).
