This is one of a pair of barred owls we saw in the woods. The first one flew across the trail in front of us and landed in a hemlock. This one began calling, VERY loudly, and soon flew onto this snag where he stayed making the most amazing 'booming' calls. We sat on a log and watched him for awhile, and it was such a treat. These are one of the most common owls in our region, but it is still a real thrill to see them.
