Amargosa Opera House Ceiling

Death Valley Junction, California

When Marta Becket rented an abandoned theater in 1967, sometimes she would perform for 5 people or even to an empty room.
One day she decided she always wanted an audience in her auditorium, so she would paint an entire audience on the walls of the theater.
It took four years to complete the murals on the walls to portray the audience of a night at the opera from the 16th century.
There is the king and queen, along with nobility people, monks and nuns, gypsies, warriors and ballerinas, all painted beautifully upon these walls.
Then Marta started work on the ceiling, which took another two years and was completed in 1974.

Another lovely capture of this amazing ceiling. I like the closer crop in this one. V.
