Economics, New Orleans, Louisiana, 2014

I contrast a bicycle, chained to a lamppost, to a shop window advertising antique jewelry. The bike represents frugality, while the advertisement symbolizes ostentation. The contrast is intensified through all three primary colors – red, yellow, and blue. The wet street reflects this lavish display of color, embracing the bike within softly rendered hues.

You see this simple image, Rose, in all of its complexity. Thanks so much for pointing these things out. Some of them were included intentionally. Others accidentally. But it all works.

I see so much in this image! The drawing with the circle (on the red wall in yellow) echoes the bike wheels, as do the circles on the sidewalk and in the white door. The rectangles in the walls, doors, windows, lamppost and sidewalk contrast with the bike. On the right, the yellow rectangular mail slot in the green door echoes the yellow gem on the left. And I love the primary colors and the contrast between the luxury jewels and the utilitarian bike. Vote!
