Floating Island is surrounded by mud flats and partially encircled by a gravel road (an extension of a causeway). While driving around the east side of the island, I noticed tire tracks heading away from the road onto the playa. I followed them and took these pictures. Knowing that the mud doesn't always support the weight of vehicles, I proceeded slowly, getting out of my car a few times to see if the tires were sinking into the mud. The tracks led to an interesting gate in a barbed-wire fence.
