14th April 2013 - mad, bad and dangerous to know

Mad? Some would say certifiable as I have spent a couple of hours today ironing, including two batches of bedding. I know that I’m in minority when I ‘fess up to ironing sheets, pillow cases and duvet covers but for me, the time spent on this some-would-say ill-advised venture is a small price for the pleasure of slipping inside a bed made with newly laundered sheets. It’s one of those “you pay your money and make your choice” things isn’t it? A trade-off between time that could otherwise have been spent elsewhere and the pleasure it gives.

Bad? Oohhh bad in all sorts of ways today. I’ve been bad in as much as I’ve managed to prevaricate away half of the day before settling down to think about seaweeds and pollution – not something I’d given much thought to before doing my degree but something that’s going to occupy a fair amount of my time over the coming weeks. As I have an appointment to discuss such matters on Tuesday and I can’t do any more tomorrow because I revert to my other job as a labourer for the day, I SHOULD have done more today. I’ve also forced DM into doing something he’s really unhappy about – that must be bad. Oh and I have been reliving in my head a scene witnessed yesterday when we happened to be in the right place at the right time to see someone we don’t get on with reverse out of a parking space and hit a passing car. Do you know what? I think that is so bad that I deserve a few “hail Mary’s and how’s your fathers” in punishment.

Dangerous to know? Well, if you ever find yourself in close proximity you will know that I am the clumsiest person on the planet. I can fall over my own shadow. I break everything. Today I have cremated a saucepan twice. The first time I managed to weld porridge to it and turn it into charcoal. I tried to get it off but failed so I put some flat coke into it and put it on the stove then forgot it and now I have so much pure carbon I think I may have enough to open a charcoal factory. Take this iron. It’s about three months old. I had to buy it because I’d dropped the old one three times onto the kitchen floor and it had finally given up the ghost because its water chamber was ruptured and spewing water over the electrical gubbins. This one was dropped on the first time I used it but I don’t think I did any damage on that occasion, either to the floor or to the iron. Last week, I knocked it off the top of the fridge onto its shiny new hi-tech tip specially designed for going into little spaces and a particular feature of this iron. I didn’t even notice that it was broken until I was trying to get an entirely different iron photo, with steam and stuff when I noticed the damage and thought I’d use that instead. I’m probably not too dangerous to other humans or critters, but woe-betide-you if you are an appliance in our home…it’s only a matter of time.

Sounds like an ASBO is in order.

I must be in the minority too then, because I iron duvet covers and pillow cases...but then I'm mad, I actually quite like ironing!

I hope you get things ironed out.....

Oh dear...! I thought you might have walloped DM with it, for a minute... ;-)
