We didn't get off the ship in Sint Maarten. Not much of interest. Over-priced stores and thousands of people because of the large number of cruise ships in port. Sint Maarten has a good deep harbour and room for at least 8 cruise ships so it is on many itineraries. Sadly, the trend to ever bigger ships will eventually be the ruin of the cruise industry in the Caribbean in my view. (Actually they are no longer ships but huge self propelled flat bottomed barges with hotels built on them). Who wants to go to a tiny island when there are 8 ships in port and you are being jostled around by 40000 people. I can't imagine the stress this creates on their water and sewer infrastructure. Some islands, like St. Barts have banned most cruise ships. Unfortunately, most can't because they are not as rich as St. Barts.
