WAWELA

Lucy made friends with these gals from the WAWELA Organization.

The following information is taken from their website:

“A thousand mile journey starts with a single step”

WAWELA is a non-profit 501(c) (3) organization.
Our mission in supporting the cancer community is to offer temporary financial assistance to the un-insured as well as the under-insured patients undergoing cancer treatment.

At WAWELA we understand the financial stress many patients experience during the treatment process while adjusting to a new lifestyle of living.
We are not government funded therefore all funding is provided through community sponsorship, ongoing fundraisers, friends and family.

What does WAWELA mean?

WAWELA is not just a word. It is actually a Declaration which means "All is Well".
WAWELA is a well known expression among the African Bantu tribe.
An annual gathering would be held in the town center for all who were economically challenged, physically or spiritually ill.
Whatever the situation, the tribe would all congregate and bid each other well.
It was a time of relief, excitement; it was a "Celebration of Life".
