The old mill yard.

Speldhurst, Kent, England view map

Bradley's Mill;wooden furniture makers nowadays. It's at this point that I'm going to tell you how to suck eggs.Up to this point,I've followed the Wealdway,on computer.Copying the next day's walk, fairly accurately(one walker encountered compared a previous, sketch map very favourably with his OS map),into a sketch map.Alas,I now mis-read my own map.At the top of the lane,on Speldhurst Hill,is a marker post directing Wealdway walkers, up the hill, towards Speldhurst, but importantly,it does not say "to Speldhurst".So far,so good. But,in my haste to finish my map, early on Saturday morning,I duplicated the section from Stockland Green Road to Speldhurst Hill; without writing down relevant street names. Thus the trap was set. So,I follow the direction arrow up Speldhurst Hill, looking for a very soon turn to the left.Of course,it's not really there,so I slog on up the hill until I get to Wallers Close.I'm now only a short distance from Speldhurst, round the bend in the road. But,I've mis-read MY map, which must be right,'cos I drew it.So,convinced that I must have missed a turn somewhere,I retrace my steps, past Bradley's Mill lane and head off in the opposite direction, determined that I can somehow walk around the hill and in doing so cut the line of the Wealdway near Fordcombe.I got as far as Lower Green, Rusthall, before a kindly soul, stopped laughing long enough to show me my error.
