I was wondering about this sculpture in the market place of Castrop-Rauxel, until I remembered that there was a race course for steeplechase racing in Castrop-Rauxel for nearly a hundred years.
Castrop-Rauxel is one of the smaller towns in our area, so everyone thinks, you´re telling jokes about this.
It all started in 1872, when an irish coal mining owner had the idea for the course. The course was closed in 1970 for financial reasons.
Today it´s a park, where you still can see parts of the course like natural obstacles and the finish tower.
