At first glance this looked like an amanita, but upon looking through a hole in the cap made by a slug, we saw that the gills we pinkish. Upon maturing, the gills will turn brown from the spores. The ring exhibits a cogwheel-like pattern. This mushroom also had a distinct anise-like odor. It yellows on handling.
