Day 6

Elbe, Wa

Wed - 12 – Wed
Randle, Wa.
Weather-scattered showers-low 70’s (22C)

Woke up to clouds and rain, which didn’t inspire us to rush around to much. We had breakfast and then planned out the day’s agenda. There are several loops of varying lengths that wind through the area around Mt Rainier and we decided on one that was fairly short (it was a long day yesterday) and lower in elevation...with the rain and clouds mountain viewing was next to impossible.

There were a few historical sites, old churches, old railway equipment, old buildings all scattered along the way as we ventured down the road. Occasionally a spot of sun would shine through the clouds and enhance the photo ops.

Most of the areas we have been travelling through have been dry and brown, however today we drove on a back road between Ashford and Packwood that was so lush we could hardly believe the temperatures last week were 111F or 48C. As we entered Packwood the local lawn mowers, resident elk, were everywhere. We stopped for just ‘a few’ shots and then went back to Gus to get cleaned up for dinner with the relatives at 6pm.

Had a wonderful dinner and gab fest and headed back to Gus. The elk really started coming out of the wood-work…we saw over 70 on the way home and despite some poor lighting we managed to get a few decent shots. When we got back home it was download/sort photos and off bed...a full day. The adventure continues...
