Metamorphosis (transfiguration) is the original name of the monastery now known as Megalo Meteora...a founding monk did however also refer to it as simply Meteora (“in the air”)...that title has since come to identify the entire area

It never ceases to amaze me what lengths the old monks went to in order to get away from civilization and the temptations of the contemporary culture, David! This was obviously the perfect place for monks who enjoyed the odd spot of paragliding or abseiling! ;o) Great shot, my friend.

Monastery high on cliff is quite a sight! Dark stained rock and erosion lines are striking. Looks like a great place to visit and photograph. V
